Don is among the “daring young men and their doubleneck guitars” featured in the January 2010 issue of Premier Guitar magazine. The issue recaps the history and spotlights a handful of renowned players of multi-necked guitars. Not only that, the accompanying Felder/Walsh classic color photo looks a lot like what we had hanging in our college dorm room back in the day.

Last Friday, ABC News 20/20 aired an interesting report about questionable methods used by memorabilia dealers pitching autographed guitars.
The story centered around the practice of stealing photos, doctoring them and using the “enhanced” pictures to authenticate the otherwise phony signatures. Don’s, Robert Plant’s, Don Henley’s, Bono’s and Miley Cyrus’ are among some of the dubiously obtained autographs mentioned.

If you’re like us and sometimes find yourself falling prey to worshipping false gods, well, we’re not alone. The organizers of the Musikmesse understand.
The Musikmesse, the world’s largest music trade fair taking place March 24-26, 2010 in Frankfurt, Germany, has announced that next year’s fair will include a vintage instrument and memorabilia exhibit. Among the “toys” they plan to have on display are both Clapton’s “Blackie” and Stevie Ray Vaughans’ “Lenny,” axes worth an estimated $1.8 million.
For more information consult the special International Vintage Show page. The page hasn’t been translated (yet anyway) so you might want to check out the links to the videos and photos which are actually spoken and captioned in English.
You’ll find the latest about the Musikmesse 2010 up on the official website, which has a new, cool animated splash intro. We think it could use different background music, though, sorta like this

Seats are filling for Don’s show coming up on August 19th at the Pavilion in Sun Valley. Once again, another Don Felder live show is for a very worthwhile cause, benefitting the Danny Thompson Memorial Leukemia Fund. There are also a limited number of tickets on sale for the VIP cocktail party prior to the concert. Tickets are available directly from Sun Valley Resort Online Sales. . . . . . On August 7 in Tempe, Arizona, the Fender Hall of Fame will induct the late James Jamerson, legendary bassist with Motown’s original session band The Funk Brothers. Jamerson is widely considered to have been singly responsible for putting funk on the map with his melodic bass lines and was so prolific that his Hitsville session credits are basically the label’s discography. Those unfamiliar with his playing stop reading and watch him along side fellow Motown great Marvin Gaye performing live in this video – hang on for the entire nine minutes because in the last two you hear him really get rolling. (Semi-off-topic digression: our #1 Funk Brothers orchestration has Jamerson playing on this original (instrumental) version of Can’t Get Next to You, which also has that cool psychedelic-soul-wah played by Dennis Coffey, charter member of felderfans.com’s Unsung Guitar Heroes Riff of Fame.) More about the FHOF induction at Fender.com . . . . . Continue reading →
