The Bob Hope Chrysler Golf Classic gets underway on Wednesday, January 21st. “Fifty Years of Hope” will be played over four days at four different championship courses in and around the Palm Springs, California area. This year’s anniversary edition is hosted by Arnold Palmer.

Don was involved in a pre-tournament press conference and photo shoot. Click here to view the gallery. Sorry Don, but these young ladies are not playing in your foursome.

Don’s playing with amateurs Josh Kelley and Bob Holmes throughout the four days. Each celebrity/amateur team plays with a different pro, rotating over the four courses. The tournament lumps the celebrities together in one field, which makes it easier for the fans (and the press) to follow them. The official site has posted the pairings. Probably the best time to see your favorite player/celebrity is during one of the practice rounds on Monday and Tuesday.

Tonight, Michael McDonald is headlining the entertainment at the tournament’s traditional ball.

2008 Felderfans Year in Review

The end of another year has crept up again and that means it’s time for a look back at some of this year’s Felder moments.

Fiftieth Hope Chrysler Classic with Don

Don will be returning this year to play in the bombastic Bob Hope Chrysler Classic celebrity pro-am golf tournament taking place from January 21-25, 2009 in and around Palm Springs, California, tournament officialdom announced today. This year is the 50th edition.

According to the Desert Sun, Don’s putting together the celebrity jam again this year as well.

Hey Don, if you’re taking requests, how about doing something for everybody like “Green Grass of Ho(p)e” or maybe S(t)roke on the Water” or perhaps even the Cars’ classic “Drive?”

Don defied the forces of nature during the third and last day for the amateurs played yesterday at Kingsbarns. Playing in conditions more suitable to testing battleships in a wind tunnel without the tunnel, he actually made up some strokes. His toughest job was trying not to blow away like a male Mary Poppins while holding an open golf umbrella.

Don admitted he didn’t think he would play that well this year since he’s been busy doing other things besides working on his golf game, like promoting his book and, get this, playing guitar.

Rex Usa has several pictures taken at this year’s event, including some of Don during the practice rounds, chit-chatting at the pairings dinner and performing at the Saturday night shindig along with Huey Lewis and Tico Torres.

Chillin’ at Carnoustie

David and Don

David and Don

Don’t let the smiles on these two gents pictured on the right fool you. Playing in icy winds at Carnoustie is no laughing matter. Their faces are simply frozen.

David has a reason to be smiling: despite the gusty conditions he managed to pick up several strokes and finds himself among the top amateur players at -12. Don forfeited his -1 from yesterday, ending at 3 above par, even though he did manage a Ben Hogan moment by sinking a 40-foot putt on the 18th. Pros Jean-Francois and Gregory struggled a bit and have their work cut out for them in order to break even by the end of tomorrow’s last pro-am round at Kingsbarns.
