Heaven and Hell Makes N.Y. Times Bestseller List

Don’s book is listed among the best-selling hard-cover non-fiction titles according to the respected N.Y. Times Bestseller List (week ending August 3, 2008.) Some book-signing pics from Greenwich Village here.

Book Promotional Campaign Underway

Since the release of the American edition of Heaven and Hell in May 2008, Don has been quoted in numerous press releases, newspaper and magazine articles as well as radio interviews about the book. What’s more, a positive side effect has been a re-discovery of his contributions to popular music and state-of-the-art guitar playing techniques.

We’ve collected a random sampling of clips available on the internet for free online listening/viewing on this page.

South Park’s Takin’ A Ride

This week’s (3/26/08) South Park episode featuring Don’s song “Heavy Metal - Takin’ a Ride” in its soundtrack is archived on the Southpark Studios site. Due to copyright restrictions the full episode is not available for viewing until April 26th.

We interviewed Don shortly after the episode aired and asked him about it here.

Sunday Times - Heaven & Hell Among Top Music Books of 2007

Not surprisingly, Don’s autobiography has struck an overwhelmingly positive “chord” among visitors of this site. But apparently even the most un-biased of fans, namely the professional book critics of the Sunday Times, have also found Don’s book to be worth a read and have ranked it among the top music books of 2007.

About the Author…

On the eve of the release of his autobiography Heaven & Hell: My Life as an Eagle, Don sat down during the Alfred Dunhill Links Golf Championship in October and between sips of Scottish tea gave this extensive, personal and interesting interview to the Sunday Herald.

Don Explains His Golf Passion on BBC Scotland

Don reveals how his addiction to golf was ignited way back in his days with the Eagles and how teeing off on the first hole at St. Andrews frightens him more than performing any concert gig in quotes gleaned from this interview he gave to BBC Sport Scotland on the eve of this year’s Alfred Dunhill Links pro-am tournament.

Also available for viewing is a gallery of photos taken at the subsequent players night, as well as some shots of Don, Ronan and Huey at ILRY.

Open Air in Reno

Wow! Just click on the Don thumbnail at renotahoelive.com and the window will open up to over 30 shots taken of Don and his band during his August 30th show in Reno. Reno.com has also posted a photoblog from the same performance.

Visuals Galore from the Quaid Weekend

Stop by PhotoReflect and view hundreds of photographs taken by Jesse Knish at the 2007 Dennis Quaid Charity Weekend in June.

A good place to start is the collection from the Gala Concert. Jesse was literally close enough to strum Don’s strat!
What’s more, the thumbnails can be enlarged and prints purchased through the site with 20% going to the event’s charity beneficiaries.

Thanks again to Jesse for allowing us to publish those displayed on this site.

Long Since Moved On

For those of you who still search this site for news about the smoldering six-year legal conflagration between Don and former bandmates Frey and Henley of the Eagles - there’s nothing to search for. There was no official announcement but evidently a settlement was reached on or around May 7.

Several classic rock radio stations nevertheless picked up the non-news story. For instance KLOS’s Uncle Joe Benson’s May 31st blog blurb speculated that the settlement frees up the remaining Eagles to release a long-awaited new album and, quite frankly “Felder no longer cares…..” (20 Jun 07)

2007 Winter NAMM

Don spent some time during the winter NAMM show promoting the tenth anniversary of the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus. While he was there, he couldn’t keep from helping another group of young people write, record and film a music video. Along with his friend, actor Bruce Greenwood, both of whom share an interest in promoting music education in the public schools, the results of their work that day reflect this enthusiasm and dedication. Nice job, guys!

You can view the entire video at apple.com’s video collection. (10 Feb 07)

Coming Together on the Bus

The end of 2006 saw the release of the book COME TOGETHER which describes life aboard the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus. It’s many things rolled into one. Part technical, part biographical, part road movie. Don is among the guest artists portrayed in the book who visited the bus and it’s mobile recording studio during the course of the year.

The book also has an accompanying DVD. On it you will find an interview with Don and the music video he made along with students during an afternoon on board the bus last March. Come Together: The Official John Lennon Educational Tour Bus Guide to Music and Videocan be purchased through most major online retailers with a portion of the purchase price going to support the work of the bus.

Visit jlsc.com for the current tour bus schedule. (07 Jan 07)

Nice to Have Cell Phones with Video Features

From the 2006 Alice Cooper Christmas Pudding Show:

We like the photo posted on Tommy Shaw’s site where Don’s smile proves how much fun it is to play with Tommy and Stephen Stills.

Don Cameo on Television Reality Docu-Series “Really Rich Real Estate” on VH1

For the past three weeks, VH1 has been airing “The Fabulous Life - Really Rich Real Estate,” a reality docu-series showcasing the Westside Estate Agency in Los Angeles, a real estate agency catering to house-hunting high rollers. Don makes a short cameo appearance in this episode. Keep your eye out for Don “wheeling and dealing” about halfway through. Due to copyright restrictions the video is only available for viewers with U.S. IP addresses. (12-10-06)

Don Plays Benefit Concert for Rock Hall Museum

Here’s a link to the Cleve Scene online magazine which mentions the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum’s benefit concert on May 12, 2006. The author seems to have had an out-of-body experience with the venue personnel. The photo is a lovely touch, though. Nice jacket, Don!

Press Conference re: Arts Education Proposal

Sometimes things like this almost go unnoticed, however the effects of them remain a long, long time. Nice to see Don’s keeping alert as to the development of arts education in California.

From the Associated Press wires:

“Grammy-nominated singer Josh Groban, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Don Felder (The Eagles) and Canadian actor Bruce Greenwood (”Eight Below”) gathered in a press conference in Los Angeles Wednesday, 5 April 2006, to urge the California Legislature to approve Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s 100 million US dollars proposal for an arts education.”

Footnote: California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed into law $105 million in reoccurring funds for music and arts education and another onetime $500 million for musical instruments, art supplies and physical education equipment on June 27, 2006.

Director’s Cut - Don Assists Kids in Making Video

On March 28th 2006 Don was aboard the John Lennon Educational Tour bus to help a group of young people make a music video. They wrote, recorded and filmed it in one afternoon and the results appear online at apple.com. Hey, we recognized that one guitar player! Don also gave his insight into what influenced writing the hit song “Hotel California” in this interview which was filmed in conjunction with the music video.

Although seeing and hearing Don perform, especially new music, was a major factor in our archiving this, the most important thing is that it demonstrates Don’s commitment to enriching the lives of young people through music. Fortunately there are organizations out there such as the John Lennon Tour Bus and Apple.com which help provide the necessary tools for Don to be able to pursue this commitment.

No question, Don. Good songwriting comes from the heart. And a great song such as “Hotel California” obviously came from a big one.

Don Felder and Friends Rock Cerritos

Not enough can be done to help the victims of hurricane Katrina. Athough there have been several, bigger and much more publicized benefit concerts for this cause, kudos to Don and his guest artists for getting out there and demonstrating support. Not a bad effort when over $150,000 springs out of it.

Chris Walter at Photofeatures has recently added the Katrina benefit. There are several shots of Don and Stephen Stills playing together.Cerritos banner

Additional shots by Chris Walter can be viewed at Wireimage as well.

Corbis has some really nice pictures, among them Don and daughter Leah as well as Dennis Quaid and his bare feet. These can be on-clicked to enlarge.

Here’s an extended write-up with some very nice photos from the

L.A. Valley College Online Newspaper while a review from the Cerritos College Web News offers some interesting remarks from those who were in the audience. (2/10/06)
