Birth of the Felder Burst

In his interview with Gibson, Don recalls this particular guitar-shopping spreeQuite remarkable that in less than a month’s time, Gibson has introduced not one but TWO signature Don Felder guitars.

Gibson announced on their website the newest Don Felder custom ’59 Les Paul Standard model on Wednesday and has since added a second feature interview with Don which reveals how he created the song “Hotel California” using his favorite Les Paul.

To listen to what the signature Don Felder model sounds like and get a close up of the goodies inside the case, check out this posting at the mylespaul.com forum. Then shuffle down to your local Gibson showroom for a test solo.

The Custom Don Felder ’59 Les Paul VOS

Is one custom Gibson limited edition “Don Felder Hotel California” re-issue not enough for you?

Coming on the heels of the highly publicized Gibson EDS-1275 Don Felder doubleneck re-issue, the new Don Felder “Hotel California” custom 1959 Les Paul VOS hits dealers around September 30.

A replica of the axe Don considers the number one item in his set up, the Felder VOS (Vintage Original Spec) will feature a rounded, thinner neck (unusual for the era) and aged wood finishing optically mocking Don’s own original model which he used in the studio recording of Hotel California. Limited to 150 reissues worldwide, fifty of the personally signed Felder ’59s also come with Hotel California sheet music autographed by Don.

Welcome to the Hotel Californiagara Falls

Yesterday was the first of Don’s three “Evenings at the Hotel California” at the Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls.

To summarize, according to feedback we’ve received, the band displayed superb stage presence and complimented Don seamlessly, delivering “a very well-packaged show” which “left the audience wanting more.” Interestingly, the songs “Victim of Love” and “Witchy Woman” were singled out for their tightness, including vocals.

And, because people want to know, yes, the accomplished percussionist behind the congas is in fact Don’s son, Cody Felder.

Tickets: Don Felder’s Evening at the Hotel California, August 27 & August 28 at the Fallsview. Both shows start at 9:00 pm.

Canadian Shows Up Next

Don returns for a three-consecutive-show spree at the Fallsview Casino Resort in Niagara Falls, Ontario beginning this Thursday, August 26. The resort’s Avalon Theatre appears to have become his home-away-from-home since hosting three shows of his earlier this year as well as dates in 2009.

Procrastinators in need of last minute tickets should go directly to the venue site.
