Keel-Felder Golf Classic

2009 Keel-Felder Classic

(6/Sep/2009) Twenty-one teams teed off under blustery skies this morning at Carden Park for this year’s charity tournament benefitting The Christie Hospital in Manchester. During the course of the day, the sun did come out once in a while and the rain held off until everyone finished up and made it into the clubhouse.

2007 Keel-Felder Golf Classic

Guests of the 2007 Classic gala cabaret not only knew the way to Carden Park, they also knew the way to Amarillo. They were more than delighted to help Tony Christie find his way there during his performance of his hit at yesterday evening’s show.

With the support of Greg Morton and Band, the audience was treated to a fast-paced and entertaining potpourri presented by Vince Miller. Tenor Jon Christos turned in another stunning vocal performance. Duncan Norvelle and Norman Collier provided comedy, Bruce Greenwood the blues sound and of course Don, who in addition to singing and playing cabaret standards Hotel California and Take It Easy laid down another classic Felder extended slide solo doing The Long Run.

Over £30,000 was raised to benefit the Christies Hospital in Manchester. Tony Christie posted a short review along with a photo of himself together with Don in their tuxes in his website newsletter.

This year’s Howard Keel Don Felder Golf Classic will be held at the DeVere Carden Park outside of Chester, Cheshire, U.K. on Sunday, September 10th beginning at 10:30 a.m. This year’s 20th edition will once again benefit the N.S.P.C.C. and it’s child assistance programs. Admission is free to the public. A £5 fee for parking a car will be donated to the NSPCC.

New this year is the change of venue. Built on the grounds of a 17th-century estate and covering some 750 scenic acres, the DeVere Carden Park boasts two championship 18-hole golf courses, one of which was designed with the assistance of golf legend Jack Nicklaus. Certainly the perfect backdrop for the day’s activities.

Special thanks to AWM Marketing and Willie Morgan for providing a sneak peek at some of the celebrities planning to participate in this year’s event. So, start making plans to come out and join Don and take in some fun golf for a great cause. For more venue information and directions click here.

The backing guitar player Noel Fraser posted this amateur video on the web. It’s from the 2005 cabaret show. John Miles plays alongside Don on “Take it Easy.” Great live Felder guitar solos!
