Jazz historians and regular peeps alike should check out this month’s retro vibe, namely a five-part interview with legendary recording engineer Rudy Van Gelder published this week in JazzWax.com. Van Gelder was recognized with the 2012 Trustee Award by the Recording Academy at last week’s Grammys. A microphone fetishist, Rudy was geek before it was mainstream, and the result of his fascination with everything that pulses and vibrates resulted in many of the greatest jazz and jazz fusion recordings ever captured.
