On August 7 in Tempe, Arizona, the Fender Hall of Fame will induct the late James Jamerson, legendary bassist with Motown’s original session band The Funk Brothers. Jamerson is widely considered to have been singly responsible for putting funk on the map with his melodic bass lines and was so prolific that his Hitsville session credits are basically the label’s discography. (Semi-off-topic digression: our #1 Funk Brothers orchestration has Jamerson playing on this original (instrumental) version of Can’t Get Next to You, which also has that cool psychedelic-soul-wah played by Dennis Coffey, charter member of felderfans.com’s Unsung Guitar Heroes Riff of Fame.)
