April News & Updates
Earlier this month, the Montreux Jazz Festival (July 13-18) announced its 2009 program. “Jazz Festival” is somewhat of a misnomer. This year’s “jazz” includes the likes of the Black Eyed Peas, Alice Cooper and Sammy Hagar (!), Donna Summer, Derek Trucks, Lily Allen, Jeff Beck, Seal, Steely Dan, Steve Winwood and B.B. King. (Rest assured, the jazz lineup is phenomenal – the list is l-o-o-o-n-g.) Interesting addition this year: Creed Taylor and the CTI All Star Band – Creed Taylor was Don’s first record producer back in 1969* . . . . . . Our “house” steel guitarist, Al Perkins, has announced he will be returning to Europe this summer with selected dates in the U.K. and eventually on the continent. Al will also be appearing this weekend at the Stagecoach Country Music Festival in Indio, CA (4/26), where Poco (Messina, Furay, Young, Cotton, Schmit) and Pure Prairie League are also on the bill. . . . . . . What are you waiting for? European Crosby, Stills and Nash fans take heed: four of their nine European shows are already sold out: Glastonbury Festival (Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen) on 6/27, London (Royal Albert Hall) on 7/1, Paris on 7/4 and Amsterdam on 7/6. We’re looking forward to the open air show in Bonn on July 3rd. Fans in the U.S. have a selection of domestic dates from early June on. (You know, if Al Perkins and Stephen Stills stumble upon each other in Europe, you’ve got a third of a Manassas reunion!)
* Now for today’s Felder trivia question: What record of Don’s did Creed Taylor produce?
